#BehindTheBlogger We Are Family
If you have ever been the step parent in a relationship, you know that it can be VERY hard to make things work. Not because you don’t care about the child, but maybe because you care too much. Often times there are the lingering feelings of bitterness and anger. That is understandable, divorce is never easy, especially when kids are involved. Sometimes the stepparent must take a backseat to the raising of that child, even if that child is in the home that you share with his or her parent.
There is just something about a step relationship that can cause a lot of hostility. Especially when new babies enter the picture. But it doesn’t have to be that way. I will be the first to admit that the relationship with my husband’s ex-wife has always been rocky. I have done my fair share of stirring the pot, and it’s not something I am proud of.
However, with each year that passes, that we don’t see his oldest daughter; with each year that my kids go without meeting their oldest sister; the more I want to pause and rewind things, and say…I am sorry, let’s make this work, We Are Family.
No matter how we may feel about one another, there are five children in this world that are bound by blood, that are missing out on a relationship with one another. We Are Family, and we should be acting like one. My husband and I often talk of the help we would give his ex-wife and her family if they ever needed it, but for now, it just that…talk. Because we are far apart, and we don’t communicate anymore.
I want nothing more than to have a healthy relationship with her, for the sake of all our children…So I will continue to yell to the heavens, in hopes that one day she feels the same, and repeat the words; We Are Family. The love we have here will never fade, or disappear, and we will patiently wait, arms wide open, for the day we can reunite.
Thank you for reading a story from #BehindTheBlogger Hop. Every 2 weeks a group of bloggers is given a writing prompt. These prompts are very open ended, so our bloggers can write about whatever they desire. The main rule is that their blog post directly relates to the topic of that week. The point of this hop is for our readers to get to know us on a personal level.
Please hop along and read all of the blog posts in this weeks hop. Just click the links below. If you want real and raw emotion, then you will find it here. After you read each post, please comment and share. We want to get to know you too!
