A Bloggers Guide to Working with PR Agencies

If you have been a blogger for any length of time, then you are likely familiar with PR Agencies. These are the agencies, that more often than not, you will create a relationship with for a brand. These agencies play as the middle man between brands and the bloggers that they will eventually hire to test, review, and promote their products.

No matter what your blog or website niche is, there is a PR agency out there that caters to companies that carry the products that fill your needs. Searching out the right PR Agencies can take a little work though. Additionally, you are going to have to prove your worth to the agency and brand alike.

If you are a beauty blogger, you will likely want to find a skincare pr agency, this type of agency will represent several brands that you may want to work with. A google search can help you find a pr agency that is right for your niche. When you reach out to a PR Agency, you will want to do a few things; Introduce yourself, who are you, and what is your website?

Next, you will want to pitch your proposal; what do you have to offer? What are you willing to do in exchange for product or payment? Speaking of payment, you need to be very clear about your intentions. If you require payment, you need to relay this to the PR Agency, otherwise, you run the risk of working for the product only, and that is an entirely different issue.

You have to remember that these agencies receive tons of emails just like yours, so you need to make yourself stand out. Have a Media Kit ready to attach to your email. AT a minimum, your media kit needs to have your social media stats, website views (Unique Monthly, and Total Monthly) like those found on Google Analytics. Be sure to also include other brands you have collaborated with.

In addition, having a few links to prior work would be beneficial, as this can give the agency a look at the type of content they can expect if they hire you. Finally, end the email with a recognition that you appreciate their time, and make sure that you include your contact information. YES, they have your email address but don’t underestimate what a phone call might do for you in terms of securing a collaboration.

You would be surprised how often the brand themselves will reach out to discuss a potential new collaboration. On the topic of media kits, make sure you update them at the very least, monthly. You want your most current stats to be available if they are asked for. If you don’t have a media kit, get one today, there are tons of templates out there, all you have to decide is what you want yours to look like.

Lastly, make sure that once you do land that collaboration, that you follow through with what you promised. If there is an issue, make sure you reach out to the agency…build bridges, don’t burn them!
