Finding the right Scholarships for school

Going back to school is a huge decision to make. Deciding what it is you want to study; where you want to go to school, and more importantly how you plan on paying for it. Scholarships are the number one way that people hope to use when paying for school, but where do you start your search for the right scholarships?

A google search quickly yields hundreds of ways to find scholarships for schools; they have them for women, for specific schools, based on what state you live in, even whether or not you are a mom. Then they have multiple websites that claim to help you find the right scholarship. Not enough? How about a book or ten on finding the right one?

The results are seemingly endless, so it can become quite tedious trying to narrow it down to the one that is going to be the best fit for you. First things first, you need to narrow down your search field. While there is a multitude of scholarships available to apply for, perhaps searching for those that are specific to your chosen school would be the best option.

At the very least, you will only need to search through one page, versus hundreds. For others, it is better to search for those scholarships that are available to everyone, regardless of field of study. Such as the Scholarship from Dr. Summit Shah.

This is a $1000 scholarship available annually to anyone that wishes to further their education at an institute of higher learning. As is explained on his website:

“Dr. Shah is more than familiar with the growing costs of education and recognizes the financial challenges so many students encounter on the way to achieving their academic goals. He believes that no student should be denied the lifelong rewards an education bestows; especially due to nothing more than financial obstacles.”

The Summit Shah Scholarship is for students currently enrolled in or accepted to a college, university, trade school, or design school. The scholarship requires eligible applicants to submit a brief essay of no more than 500 words discussing how the lessons learned through failure can ultimately support one’s future success.

That is one of my favorite things about this particular scholarship; it is available to ANYONE wanting to further their education. Not just those in a college or university setting.

With the rising cost of education, it is important to continue to look for more ways to fund your education, and since scholarships are the way to go, don’t stop at just one. Sites like Find Aid and Student Scholarships are great resources to find more of the scholarships available today.

Student Scholarships breaks down their site into easy to use sections; New, Popular, and those that are career and salary specific. They tell you beforehand if the scholarship is competitive, and how much it is worth. All that is left for you to do is follow the application process, and never stop looking; better to have too much to pay for school, then not enough!

You are never too old to go back to school, and earn a degree or learn a trade. Don’t let your financial situation stop you when there are programs out there that can and will help.
