When people think of the holiday season, they naturally imagine snow, glowing Christmas trees, warm fires, and roasting chestnuts. Well, San Antonio isn’t exactly a traditional “winter wonderland” but there are still many great events going around the area to get you into the holiday spirit! Take advantage of the open roads, load up your Outlander or Mirage and get to some of the great-value events going on in our community this year.
- Trip to the Theater
Drive down to South Alamo and The Magik Theatre to see their family-friendly production Tiny Tim’s Christmas Carol. The show uses characters from Dickens’ best-known Christmas work and runs until December 19. Don’t miss out! Another great family show is Elf The Musical, which is showing at The Public Theater of San Antonio down in West Ashby Place. Bring some cheer and inspire creativity with a quick and easy drive to see a show.
- Lights at the Zoo
One of the city’s annual holiday highlights held at the San Antonio Zoo, this event will help you see this treasured local institution in a whole new light (pun definitely intended). Until December 31, the zoo transforms into an after-hours showstopper where you can enjoy cocoa, s’mores and even bake cookies with Santa!
- Old West Christmas Light Fest (Boerne, TX)
Anyone looking for something a little further out of town can drive about 35 minutes down the I-10, followed by three short miles west on Highway 46 to Boerne where you’ll find the Old West Christmas Light Fest. General admission is just $15 per person, or you can get a family 5-person ticket for $60. There’s family fun galore — campfire songs, laser tag, escape room, a light show, and many delicious holiday treats.
- SeaWorld Christmas Celebration
Drive out to the west of town to enjoy SeaWorld’s Christmas Celebration which will bring the fun partnership of Santa Claus, sea lions and over 9 million shimmering lights, not to mention the Sesame Street Christmas Parade and much more. One of the biggest highlights is the always-inspiring Shamu’s Christmas Miracles orca show. The celebration runs at SeaWorld’s San Antonio location at 10500 SeaWorld Drive.
