Smart Devices and Children: Which Type Is the Best?
If you were hoping smart devices would simply go away, it’s time to face the fact that they’re here to stay—and that your kids are going to want all of them. Obviously, giving them everything they want is never a good idea, but you should look into getting them at least one. That’s why we’re going to go over which smart devices are best for children and let you decide which one will be the best fit for your child.
Smartphone
We’ll get the most controversial one out of the way first. Smartphones are by far the most common smart devices that kids ask for. We’re sure your child has already claimed they’re the only person at school who doesn’t have one. They might be exaggerating—but it’s probably not entirely untrue.
People buy smartphones for their kids as a way to track their locations or get in contact with them whenever they need to. Smartphones are also a good form of entertainment and a good way for kids to keep in touch with their friends when they’re bored at home. However, the problem of technology addiction tightly correlates to smartphone usage—we did want to point that out as a possible downside. Plus, smartphones are very expensive these days, making buying and replacing them arduous on your personal budget.
Smart Watch
If you don’t think your kid should have a phone just yet, you could buy them a smartwatch instead. Some children don’t feel like they’re ready either for smartphones, either, and smartwatches are excellent alternatives for kids who aren’t prepared for smartphones. The best plus to smartwatches is that they offer most of the same features as smartphones at a fraction of the cost. That’s a win-win in most parents’ books.
Smart TV
If you’re looking for something a little more traditional, you could always get your child a smart TV. It will give them access to any streaming service for which you’re already paying as well as to standard cable. In addition, if your child has any video game consoles, you can hook them up to one of these. The only downside is that smart TVs can be a bit pricey, but their prices have dropped a bit in recent years due to them becoming easier to produce on a large scale.
Smart Home
Smart home gadgets are our final entry in our list of which smart devices are best for children. These gadgets are some of the most versatile on the market, but most of their features aren’t going to be very useful for a kid. However, your child will probably enjoy the ability to ask voice assistant questions. Whether they want to ask a question about their homework or listen to their favorite artist’s new song, they’ll be able to get any info they want by simply asking about it. The key to these devices is their future potential, so your kid might get even more use out of them as time passes.
