Speech Therapy and My Little House | Homeschooling Autism: Product of the Week
Back to school is in full swing, which also means so is homeschool! So what better time to post about Homeschooling Autism, and a must-have product of the week. For those of us with children that are differently abled; or have different learning abilities, speech therapy might be something that our children attend.
For my son, speech therapy happens twice a week at the school my daughter attends. Because of the way he learns, I like to carry on with similar lessons on the days he sees his speech therapist. One way I do that is by making sure we do our reading, and spelling. Another way and one that he finds so much more fun is by practicing his language skills with one of my favorite new products.
My Little House is a fun, interactive and multi-sensory learning tool, developed by a Speech therapist, to assist young children and those with different learning abilities in developing their language skills. My Little House is a 4 part felt board that can be used in multiples ways; lay it flat, or create a 3D house! In addition, My Little House comes with 37 felt pieces that address early language concepts.
Concepts such as over/under, inside/outside, big/bigger/biggest, empty/full, half/whole, long/short. These are all skills that you can start teaching your children from a very young age. There are no limits to what your child can learn with this amazing toy.
Now, while my son is 11 years old, and doing very well in speech, I do like having extra tools available to him for when he is having a hard time. Add to that the fact that this year, my soon to be 2 year old joined her brother in the homeschool ranks; My Little House is serving more than one purpose!
My son is a tactile learner, so what’s better than a tactile learning toy? In my opinion, this is a must-have item for both home use, and for school use. I love that because it does lie flat, I can take it with us if we are going on a trip; it is a fantastic way to pass the time on long car rides! This is exactly why it is my product of the week!
I’m not the only one who loves it though; when I mentioned it to my son’s speech therapist she expressed her excitement and approval that I had this available to him.
