The Different Ways To Detangle Your Hair

Dealing with knotty hair is frustrating and often painful. Especially if you have small children, wrangling their hair care daily can feel like an uphill battle. Let’s look at the different ways to detangle your hair and see if some of these methods are right for you or your little ones.

Brush or Comb

Though brushing or combing straight through a section of knots or tangles is typically painful and sparks a tear or two, consider using a paddle brush or wide-tooth comb to ease some of the tension. If you’re struggling with tangles, brush or comb your hair before and after you shower.

Detangler Sprays

Something more suitable for a quick fix is a detangler spray. The benefit of a spray is it can work on wet or dry hair and provides a layer of shea butter to help alleviate the tension of the tangled hair. This is a good product for on-the-go since it typically doesn’t need rinsing after use.

Conditioner

One of the most effective ways to combat knots in your hair is through proper conditioning. Apply conditioner to the ends of your hair and work upward toward the roots, leaving the roots behind. Leave the conditioner in for up to five minutes to help prevent tangles.

Hair Masks

For someone more prone to knots and tangles, it could be a sure sign of dry hair. Consider using a hair mask about once a week or every four to five days to provide lasting hydration. This is especially true in the winter months when the air is on the dry side.

If you are unsure about a store-bought product, you can play around with things at home like eggs, honey, yogurt, and bananas to concoct a mask.

Hopefully, this list of the different ways to detangle your hair can guide you through some of the most challenging strands in your life. Though you don’t need to try it all, sometimes you may need a combination of any of these to get the job done.
