Ways To Slow Down The Aging Process

There is absolutely nothing wrong with getting older, and it’s something that is going to happen to all of us at some stage. As we get older, we get wiser, and often feel more confident. Many people absolutely love getting older! However, there are some not so great side effects of getting older, too. Things like joint inflammation, wrinkles, and weight gain can make some people feel bad about themselves. Self-acceptance is key here, but there are a few things you can do that could slow down the aging process and potentially help you to feel better in other areas of your life, too. Let’s take a look at some unusual things that could help you to slow down aging:

Stay Young Minded

First, staying young starts with your mindset! There was a study that had elderly people imagine that they were back in their younger years. The study made the environment look just like the environment they would have been in when they were younger, putting out older newspapers and playing old music. By the end of the study, many of the people were playing football and had stopped using canes, when they had previously needed them to get around! It just goes to show that when you feel young, you can look and act younger.

Reduce Your Stress Levels

Find ways to reduce your stress levels, as stress can be a massive aggravator. Just because you can’t see stress, doesn’t mean it isn’t there. Get plenty of sleep, understand your stress triggers, and ensure you have plenty of time for relaxation.

Alternative Therapies

Alternative therapies may seem ridiculous, but many people claim that they work for them. Of course, this can be down to a range of factors, and it may just be a placebo. However, if a placebo works for you, why not? You could try aromatherapy and even look into NAD effects on aging.

Regular Exercise

You just can’t dispute the benefits of regular exercise, and this is a scientifically proven way to keep you feeling and looking young. Find something you enjoy and do it regularly, whether it’s swimming or just walking.

Keep Your Brain Active

Many activities that require you to use your brain a bit more can encourage you to generate new cells and develop neurological plasticity, and slow the aging process. This protects us against future cell loss! Any mentally stimulating activity can help you to build up your brain, so have fun reading, doing puzzles, and solving problems. Even arts and crafts can help!

Get Outside More

We all need vitamin D, as it keeps our bones strong and can protect us against age-related conditions. We can get vitamin D from spending more time outside, however, you can also take a supplement if needed! 15-30 minutes of sun exposure a day could be enough for optimal anti-aging.

Wear SPF – Even In Winter!

So many people don’t understand why they need to wear SPF when the sun isn’t out, but the sun can be dangerous all year round. It can even permeate windows, so you should apply it in the morning even if you’re indoors!
