Why choosing a contractor over DIY is sometimes the best choice

When it comes to working on your home, sometimes DIYing the project is fun and doable. Sometimes though, hiring a contractor is not only a better idea but also the safer way to get the job done. Redoing your floors, painting, and even building structures can be a fun way to spend the weekend. However, things like plumbing, electrical, and roofing are better left to those that have a full grasp on what they are doing.

Not to mention, contractors usually come with their own insurance, licenses, and ability to get the right permits. One major issue that should be done by a contractor is roofing. For the most part roofing jobs only need to be done a few times in the life of a home. Because of the time in which roofing tiles last, chances are that unless a storm does some serious damage, you won’t need to replace them.

It comes as no surprise that depending on what part of the Country you live in, storms will be the downfall of a long-lasting roof. I would wager to say that if you lived in Florida for instance, where hurricanes have a season, a search for “Roofing Services Florida” is one that is done quite often. Hurricanes and Tropical Storms have done more than their fair share of damage to homes in that part of the Country.

Finding the right contractor for that job doesn’t have to be hard though. You need to find a company that is knowledgeable, professional and provide superior workmanship. It is best to find a company that has a variety of reviews; be wary of those with ONLY positive reviews, it is extremely rare to find any company that has made 100% of its customers 100% happy.

Shop around; ask those that you know who have had roofing work done, and get their honest opinion. Look for a company that offers a free estimate on the work that needs to be done. The right roofing contractor will know exactly what is wrong, how to fix it, and won’t have any hidden costs or fees.

Now, believe me, I understand the appeal of DIYing things. My husband and I are fond of the DIY route; I mean, after all, why pay someone to do something, if you are able to do it yourself. However, this is one job that even we won’t DIY. Roofing is dangerous (think slip and fall); plus if you don’t get it done in time, and a storm comes through, you are facing even more damage which means more costly repairs.

In addition, hiring the right contractor means that one of their biggest concerns will be safety first. Not only for your family but for their crew as well. A roofing job isn’t as simple as pulling off and putting on sticky tiles. There are a lot of components to it; some of which can do a whole lot of damage if not properly disposed of. Have you ever stepped on a roofing nail? I promise you that you don’t ever want too.

Contractors make sure that the work site; (your home); is safe every step of the way, the job is done right, and that you are covered by a warranty. If they aren’t offering those three things at a minimum, then they aren’t the right contractor.
